Training vs infrastructure
Referring to needs of present education system, it appears that a lot of resources is being invested for training educational personnel. However, it may be observed that a lot needs to be done in the areas of infrastructure to be provided to institutions and good perks and service conditions to teachers.
There was never before such a crisis where the teachers are suffering from low self esteem on account of service conditions and institutional ambience. There is dearth of time at the disposal of teachers for their sole and whole pious duty of teaching.
One of the major drawbacks we are facing in present system and policies is undue emphasis on learning.
Why are private schools, colleges and universities more successful than government institutions? The simple reason is that private institutions focus on teaching and government institutions focus on learning.
On the pretext of ensuring learning, government institutions have got so many excuses to ensure failure of the educational institutions.
Another gloomy factor for the educational institutions is that they have become cradle of multifarious activities instead of being abode of teaching-learning.
A teacher cries and bleeds to teach but he/ she has to carry out different programmes, project, diplomatic projects, political assignments etc. The present trend of policies is mentoring teachers either to appear teaching rather than actually teaching or to use teaching career as a stepping stone to embrace another lucrative profession.
